Creative Window Treatments

Blinds are a superb method of assuring your privacy and saving on your utility bills but they also come with their own set of problems.

Curtaining or adding a valance to a window which has blinds can be difficult in that often the blinds sit outside the window casing, and are a bit further away from the wall than you might like.

The curtains block access to the blind controls so that the blinds are often left open and not used properly to assure that they do help to save you money in the long run.

Using some creativity in your design you can add creative window treatments to your windows that utilize blinds to make sure that the blinds are accessible.

A pole rod for the valances which will sit a good deal further from the wall is a good treatment to use when using blinds at a particular window.

These will hold a multitude of kinds of window treatments from the tab top valance to a scarf draped over them and down the sides of the window, leaving easy access to the blind controls so they are used daily.

Swag type scarf treatments are easily accomplished with a minimum of fuss and muss.

A length of fabric that is about triple the width of the window will be enough to drape a scarf admirably.

Choose a lightweight easy draping cloth such as cotton, thin weight linen or a very thin sheer to achieve a light airy look, while the use of deep and heavy velvet in the room will add a touch of understated elegance to your surroundings.

Taking the cloth you will need to stitch, sew or fusible web the edges of the fabric as this type lightweight material frays very easily.

When you have accomplished the stitching or fusing, hold the fabric up to you and find the exact middle of it.

Take a twist tie or zip tie and attach it to the center of the rod.
