How to Hang an Austrian Blind
*Note- The directions below are meant for a right handed person. However to make it for a left handed individual, simply switch the directions.
1. To begin the process you should decide from which side of the window you wish to work your blind, either left or right.
2. With the lining side up, lay the blind down upon a flat surface. For each length of the Austrian blind tape, cut pieces of nylon cord. Make sure to cut each one twice the length of the blind and one times the width.
3. Now, beginning on the right hand side, attach a piece of nylon cord to the bottom loop of the blind tape. Next, thread it up through all the loops all the way up to the top edge.
4. Simply repeat this for all the other blind tapes.
5. After the above is completed, you need to pull up the cords on the heading tape so it fit the blind track or batten evenly. Then use a sliding loop to secure the ends of the chords. Next, gather up the remaining, left over chord and place it into a cord organized bag.
6. Then to the wooden batten, attach the top of the blind. To do this press the heading tape onto the grip tape. Into the underside of the wooden batten, screw in the eyes. They are directly above the blind tapes. If you decided to use an Austrian blind track you should now insert curtain hooks in the pockets on the heading tape. Now hang the blind on the track.
7. Thread the cords through the cord holders that are located on the track or on the screw eyes located on the batten. It is best to work left to right. While the bottom of the blind is still at the window sill level, cut all the nylon cords at the same level as the bottom of the window. Then thread the cords through the acorn and knot them to secure them.
8. About halfway down the window, fix a cleat at the right hand side. Finally pull up the blind and then wind the cords about the cleat in a figure eight like loop. |
