Measuring Windows for Horizontal Blinds

For an inside mount installation ycou will want to find the width of the window by measuring the exact distance to the closes one eighth of an inch between the inside window sill and the inside window sill on the opposing side.

Measure WindowsThe frame will be the guideline however you do want to leave about an eighth of an inch on each side in the case that the window frame is not exactly square as sometimes happens in older homes.

To find the length that you need measure the exact distance from top frame to bottom frame.

If you would rather that your blind not touch the bottom, deduct one quarter inches to prevent this.

For an outside installation measure the distance from the outer edges of where you want the blinds.

For the best in light and heat control you will want to be sure that the blind extends about an inch beyond the window frame.

To find the proper length, measure from the top of where you want the blind to the bottom of the window and extend it one inch below to cover completely.

Measuring for Vertical Blinds should follow the same procedure, measure the opening where you want the head rail installed.

Round the measurement off to about the nearest ¼ inch.

To find your correct length, measure from the top of the head rail to the bottom of the window, or if you want them longer, to the exact length where you would like them to reach.

Round the measurement off to the closer one eighth inch in length as well.
